A Finance broker to Australia’s Shopping Queen turned self-sufficient #fakefarmer and a whole lot in between, A city girl who decided to swap my stilettos for gumboots when Hubby, myself and our dog Maui uprooted and moved from the Northern Beaches in Sydney to the Northern Rivers of NSW to start a brand-new adventure.
I was a finance broker for nearly 20 years and when I turned 40, I started a website and blog called Shopping Confessions, turning my hobby into a full-time career, becoming Australia’s go-to for all things shopping for TV, radio and in print.
Fast forward 10 years and I’ve swapped my stilettos for gumboots, and now I spend more time Googling about companion planting and sustainable living than I do shoes and bags.
The past couple of years I feel I have grown, and my shopping habits have changed, it is now more about quality over quantity and sustainability. Especially now it’s important to buy local and Australian wherever possible.
Mike & I had often talked about moving to the Northern Rivers once we were retired but, one day, feeling fed up with Sydney traffic and the hustle bustle, we decided why wait?
Within a couple of months of making the life-changing decision, we had bought and moved onto a 12-acre property 20 minutes north of Byron Bay. A big surprise to everybody, it has grabbed the attention of many.
Before even finishing building our new home, I got to work starting our veggie, fruit, and flower gardens.
Finding a newfound passion for being outside and letting my obsession with flowers run free, I now put my love of fashion into designing our outside space, where we try to live sustainably as we continue to build our forever home on what we call our ‘slice of paradise’.
Embracing farm life and still learning, I am the best #fakefarmer you have ever seen.
After long days in the garden, I felt my skin was not coping. After months of trying to find the right skin care I decided to create my own. We have created a beautiful range especially for gardeners. We use all local ingredients with Kakadu Plum playing a bit part. We wanted a collection that not only hydrates our skin but also protects our skin from the harsh environmental aggressors, like pollution. Proud to say, all Australian made.
Come along for the ride and I will share the good, bad, and ugly and everything I have bought for our home and garden with honest reviews.
We may have changed our name, but our motto will always be the same “where you can’t pay for a good review”.
