Welcome to our Home
Just over 2 years ago we moved from the Northern Beaches of Sydney to the Northern Rivers of NSW and are loving every minute of it. (you can read more of our move on our About page)
We are missing friends and family terribly, especially now with Covid restrictions but very thankful we are here.
Mike and I bought a 12acre block 20 minutes north of Byron Bay. It had a 3-bedroom house on it that we have fully renovated. The current kitchen was blue with green splash back tiles, the walls in lounge room were sponge painted yellow, the ceiling was a stained pine that’s bordering on orange, the rest of the walls were green and don’t get me started on the bathroom or the 5 different colours used outside.
We lived in the house as it was for 6 months then started the build. Before we moved in, I had to get the pine ceiling and yellow walls painted white, it was sending me crossed eyed. It’s been a long 18 months and we have a couple more to go.
Mike and I knew what our ‘must haves’ were for our new home but working with the current house we struggled trying to make it work. I knew the style we wanted, and I am good at making the inside look fab but trying to design the layout, not my bag.
We engaged Rama Architects based in Avalon Sydney. We chose them for a couple of reasons. One, we loved their previous work and two, they know us personally and I think that plays a big part, well it did for us anyway.
They made the trip up here; we told them all our needs and wants; wants was probably a bigger list than needs
Mike and I had many discussions about the design and from day dot Mike suggested we do a pavilion style home with connecting undercover walkways. I was not that keen until Rama showed us the drawings, they had the same thoughts as Mike. I loved it.
LPS Built was our builder, Liam is also my stepson. Liam and I have similar tastes and he is as fussy as me if not more. Liam has a great eye for detail and his quality of work is faultless. I am not just saying this because he is family, I have seen his work, he has worked on projects from Palm Beach, Sydney to Byron Bay.
This was the house on the property we bought
This was the master bedroom, bathroom, linen closet, lounge room, kitchen, office, and garage with a laundry (which is basically a sink and washing machine in the garage).
We extended out by 4 metres.
Lounge room is now the Master bedroom
Kitchen is my walk-in robe
Office is Mike’s walk-in robe & another powder room
Master bedroom and linen closet is now the bathroom
Bathroom is bedroom 2
Part of Garage is bedroom 3
Part of garage is laundry and mudroom
Adding linen closet
The extended 4 metres is now our garage with built in cupboards
The building on the left was 2 bedrooms. This is now my office with a powder room (fancy word for loo). Cannot tell you how excited I am to have a decent office. The water tanks will be removed and replaced with concrete water tanks behind the cabana (I will show this later).
Just behind the water tanks is where the new pavilion has been built. This is where the kitchen and living areas with an entertaining deck, pool, and cabana are.
